Covid-19 is tragic, and it has had a tremendous impact on our daily lives and placed many of us in an awkward and unusual situation. However, we should not let it hold us back from achieving our life goals. Instead, use it as an opportunity to propel ourselves forward and emerge from it a better person than we were before the pandemic. Let us turn this pandemic into an academic opportunity to upgrade ourselves, our environment, and others
Don’t be held back by the pandemic; instead, leverage it as an opportunity to propel yourself forward to break the limits of your possibilities. See my article on “You Are Your Limitation“. Life is not easy during this challenging time in all of our lives, and being confined to our homes doesn’t make it any easier. However, instead of worrying about what we cannot control, let us shift our focus and energy to what we can create. Here are five things we can do at home to keep motivated and enhance ourselves in the process.
1. Take an Online Course or Class
The outbreak has caused most education institutions to begin holding classes online. And many colleges are now offering free courses to include degree programs. There are classes on introduction to business, project management, accounting, and many others for free. Why not take the time and opportunity to learn a new skill and boost your career and resume.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education and learning is a powerful weapon because it not only changes you but has the power to change the world.” Everyone can become a game-changer, but only those who invest in themselves and others can change the world. It is the only investment that is guaranteed to pay interest. If anyone is interested Sofia.org is offering free online classes through July.
2. Learn a New Skill
What an excellent opportunity to learn a new skill, whether it is cooking, gardening, playing a musical instrument, or learning a new language. It is a unique opportunity to learn something new to enhance yourself.
Every day I take the time to read, and on average, I read a book a week. And this has helped me tremendously in not only easing my mind, but help me develop new skills and knowledge, and sharpen old ones. A book a week my be a lot for some, but I recommend starting a chapter or page a day, and before you know, you are reading every day.
Reading is an easy, yet fantastic way to upgrade your skills to become a better person each day, because each time you read, you are investing in yourself and enhancing who you are, thus making yourself more valuable each day. And in the words of Albert Einstein, “Once you stop learning, you start dying.”
The popular actor and singer Will Smith put it this way “No matter how talented you are, your talent will fail you if you’re not skilled. Sill is achieved through practice. Work hard and dedicate yourself to being better every single day.”
3. Build on Your Family Values
Someone once said that having a place to go is a home, and having someone to love is family, but having them both is a blessing. I cannot overstate how vital it is to have family support during this challenging time in our lives. They become the compass that guides us, and the inspiration to get us through difficult times.
We don’t choose our family; they are God’s gift to us, and therefore let’s take this opportunity to leverage this gift from God. We need the love, support, and encouragement of our family. They are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.
4. Socially Connect With Others
The point is that though you are sheltered in place, it does not mean you cannot socially get involved with those around you. Instead, this is an excellent opportunity to connect with those around the world. Because we all have one thing in common at this moment, and that’s Covid-19. We are all experiencing this pandemic in one way or another. Therefore, making this an excellent opportunity to connect with people to encourage them or to be inspired.
Take time to connect with others and tell your story, whether it’s Skype, Facebook, or just a simple phone call. We all have a story to share that could encourage and inspire someone. Also, many churches have socially connected programs to help encourage people during this difficult time.
5. Take on Small Home Projects
Taking time to do small projects at home is a great way to ease tension while occupying the mind, whether it’s taking on a gardening project or rearranging the home. Home improvement is a fantastic way to recreate your environment. “If you want to respect an old house, it’s important to keep the philosophy of the builder in mind. You can honor it by restoring its original state, or you can honor it by restoring its original intention.” ~Will Lewis.
Conclusion
The objective is to see this as an opportunity and not as a setback. It is challenging to stay motivated during this challenging time in all our lives. This virus has impacted every one of us, and it has changed the way we live. However, let us take action to become a better person than we were before the pandemic. I listed five things, but there are many more, let’s be creative, innovative, and explore our imaginations and break the bonds of our capture (Covid-19).
Excellent!! Well done Fred!
Thanks, Lisa! I’m actually applying these principles, and I’m finding myself more motivated, productive, and energized each day.
